- In addition to two years in history/social science, students are highly recommended to take a year in world history and culture, one year in U.S. history, or half a year in U.S. history, and half a year in American government.

- Mathematics courses taken in the 7th and 8th grades that the student’s high school accepts as equivalent to its own can satisfy part of this requirement. There is a minimum pattern of Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II.
- At least two years of laboratory science. One of the following subjects should be biology, chemistry, or physics.
- Students should study a foreign language for two years in addition to English. If the high school accepts 7th and 8th-grade courses as equivalent, a student may use them to satisfy this requirement.
- There is a single, entire year-long class of visual or performing arts, for instance, dance, drama, music, or visual arts.
- A year of elective courses chosen from courses beyond the courses required to meet the stated requirements or courses that the faculty has approved.
